Southern Colorado Hiking

Southern Colorado Hiking is some of the best in the state. The terrain is both diverse and beautiful. The crowds are generally low and this is one of the best regions in the state.

Little Cimarron Trail

Turn on the Little Cimarron Road off highway 50 between Montrose and Gunnison to access a great network of trails. The Little Cimarron follows the Little Cimarron River and has spectacular scenery in the Uncomhagre Wilderness. Rugged rock formations and the feeling of a remote landscape make this a wonderful hike.

Matterhorn Peak

This 13er is a beutiful hike and offers stunning views of several 14ers from the summit. To access follow Henson Creek out of Lake City. Turn right on North Henson Road at Capitol City. This will lead you to the Matterhorn trailhead.

Tip: The Matterhorn Trailhead also branches off to Wetterhorn making and ideal dual peak trip.

Ice Lake Basin

If you like dramatic landscapes then this hike is for you. The trailhead is located near Silverton on South Mineral Creek Road.

This hike leads you past waterfalls, through trees and meadows and eventually into the beautiful basin. This is a great summer wildflower hike.

Sneffels Highline Trail

The Sneffels Highline is a long difficult hike at high elevation. The highline makes a loop, part of which is in the Sneffels wilderness. It provides postcard views of the surrounding mountains, including the Telluride Ski area. We recommend training for this hike.
