San Juan Mountains 14ers

The rugged San Juan Mountains 14ers are both beautiful and difficult to access. It is a short season in the San Juans but well worth the trip. Use our guide to plan your San Juan Mountains 14ers summit.

Uncomphagre Peak

Elevation- 14,309'

From Lake City take Henson Creek Road then turn right on the 4wd Nellie Creek Road. This is an easy and beautiful hike with low crowds.

Wilson Peak

Elevation-14,246'

In the Lizard Head Wilderness access from Dunton Road. Crowds are low on this technical climb.

El Diente Peak

Elevation- 14,159'

Access from Dunton Road. This is in the Lizard Head Wilderness and is a moderate hike.

Mount Sneffles

Elevation- 14,150

Access from Yankee Boy Basin out of Ouray. This is a moderate hike with moderate crowds.

Mount Eolus

Elevation- 14,083'

Access the Needleton Trailhead from the Silverton-Durango Train. This is an awesome and remote hike that is very technical.

Windom Peak

Elevation- 14,082'

Access the Needleton Trailhead from the Silverton-Durango Train. This is an awesome and remote hike that is moderate.

Sunlight Peak

Elevation- 14,059'

Access the Needleton Trailhead from the Silverton-Durango Train. This is an awesome and remote hike that is very technical.

Handies Peak

Elevation-14,048'

From Lake City take CR30 to the Grizzly Gulch Trailhead or turn left off CR3o into the American Basin. We recommend the American Basin Route. It is moderate and beautiful during the wildflower season.

North Eolus

Elevation- 14,039'

Access the Needleton Trailhead from the Silverton-Durango Train. This is an awesome and remote hike that is very technical.

Redcloud Peak

Elevation- 14,034'

Access from Lake City via CR30. Use the Grizzly Gulch Trailhead and hike in conjuction with Sunshine Peak.

Mount Wilson

Elevation- 14,017'

Access from Dunton Road this is a beautiful hike in the Lizard Head Wilderness.

Wetterhorn Peak

Elevation- 14,015

From Lake City take Henson Creek Road then turn right on North Henson Creek Road to the Matterhorn Trailhead. This can be a technical climb but crowds are usually low.

San Luis Peak

Elevation- 14,014

Take the 798 Road at Stewart Creek. This is an easy hike with low crowds.

Sunshine Peak

Elevation- 14,001'

From Lake City take CR30 to the Grizzly Gulch Trailhead. Hike in conjunction with Redcloud Peak. This is an easy but beautiful hike.
